Important Motorist Services dates
Your birthday
The registration date on a motor vehicle license plate is valid until midnight of the registered-owner's birthday.
Renewals are accepted 90 days prior to the registered-owner’s birthday. Renewals may be for one or two years.
This applies to passenger cars, recreational vehicles, light trucks under 7,999 lbs., utility trailers and motorcycles.
Vessel registrations expire on the registered-owner’s birth date.
Important tax dates
January
- Receive 2% discount on payment of property taxes paid in January (based on postmark).
- Receive 2% discount on payment of tangible personal property taxes paid in January (based on postmark).
February
- Receive 1% discount on payment of property taxes paid in February (based on postmark).
- Receive 1% discount on payment of tangible personal property taxes paid in February (based on postmark).
March
- Full amount due on property taxes by March 31 (based on postmark).
- Full amount due on tangible personal property taxes by March 31 (based on postmark).
- Final (4th) installment payment due by March 31 (based on postmark). Taxpayers currently enrolled to pay by installments do not need to reapply to continue the program.
- Final partial payment plan due by March 31 (based on postmark). Any remaining balance will go delinquent.
- Deadline for filing Homestead Tax Deferral is March 31.
April
- All unpaid property, tangible and centrally assessed taxes become delinquent April 1.
- Applications for next year’s installment payment plan due prior to May 1.
May
- List of delinquent taxes advertised in local newspaper one time for tangible personal property.
- List of delinquent real estate taxes advertised once per week for three consecutive weeks prior to tax certificate sale in a local newspaper. Cost of advertising and electronic fee added to the delinquent bill.
- Half-year truck-tractor registrations expire midnight May 31.
June
- Tax certificate sale for delinquent real estate taxes begins on or before June 1.
- First installment payment due on or before June 30. The 6% discount is based on postmark. If this payment is not remitted by June 30, the July amount will include a 5% penalty.
- Tax warrants are issued on delinquent tangible personal property taxes June 1.
- Registration of company-owned motor vehicles (under 5,000 pounds) and vessels registered in a business name expire at midnight June 30.
July
- If the first installment payment is not received by July 31, participation in the program is cancelled.
September
- Second installment payment due by Sept. 30. The 4.5% discount is based on postmark.
November
- Collection of property taxes and tangible personal property taxes begins Nov. 1.
- Receive a 4% discount on payment of property taxes if made by Nov. 30 (based on postmark).
- Receive a 4% discount on payment of personal property taxes if made by November 30 (based on postmark).
December
- Receive a 3% discount on payment of property taxes (based on postmark).
- Receive a 3% discount on payment of tangible personal property taxes (based on postmark).
- Third installment payment due by Dec. 31. The 3% discount is based on postmark.
- Decals for mobile homes that are not assessed as real property expire at midnight December 31.
- Registration of truck-tractors, semi-trailers, trucks over 8,000 pounds, 9-passenger and over vehicles for hire expire at midnight Dec. 31.
